TBTMTU: Can You See The Sunset From The Southside?

November 17th, 2007 by Jacob Nicolas · No Comments

This is the first in the series of They Bring The Music To Us, where I’ll highlight some of my favourite mp3 blogs and their creators.

First up in the series is Can You See The Sunset From The Southside? created and authored by Eric. I’ve been reading this blog since shortly after it was devised by Eric, and back when it the URL was the painful “CYSTSFTS.blogspot.com”.
Can You See The Sunset, whose title is an homage to The Outsiders, is one of the best Music blogs I’ve ever read. Deeply influenced and inspired by the punk roots of Chicago, Eric has gone beyond the standard “Paragraph of post and one or two mp3’s” format that so many others use and has created several “mixtapes” including the 13 Volume “If it ain’t punk it’s junk” which boasts over 100 songs, and the “Incomplete History of Chicago Punk Rock” series.
Although wildly successful, the fame has not gone to Eric’s head and he still isn’t afraid to talk about his wife and daughter, who obviously mean more to him than his blog ever will.

Branching out from blogging he’s created an “occasional Podcast”, which, although few and far between, are one of the most entertaining I have ever listened to. If it still exists I suggest you listen to the one titled “Someone in Chicago Loves You

This music blog gets a strong, 5 out of 5 bunches of Grapes!
