Another week, another Tuesday, another flurry of new music. As new albums drop, this column will do its best to track the notable releases so you don’t have to. Only new material is included in this list; compilations, re-releases, live albums and remixes will generally not be covered.

Without further ado, here’s what’s new for the week of November 20, 2007:

This week is a pretty slow one for new music. Most of the big releases for fall have already come out and the winter releases haven’t yet started to trickle in - unless you count the deluge of horrible, horrible holiday compilations. Music is never stagnant, however, and some gems can still be found if you know where to look.

British Sea Power - Krakenhaus?

After a well received debut in 2003 with The Decline of British Sea Power and a comparable follow-up with 2005’s Open Season British Sea Power is building quite a buzz. This EP should serve to tide over fans as they await the four-piece’s junior album, Do You Like Rock Music, set to release in early 2008.

Atmosphere - Sad Clown, Bad Fall 10

The latest in a series of short release records (a tease at just 5 tracks) from the Midwestern hip-hop duo this record also seems like an appetizer preceding an imminent main course. The dish in this case is Atmosphere’s full length, When Life Gives You Lemons due early next year.

Bonnie “Prince” Billy - Ask Forgiveness

Though not entirely new, the slim pickings of the week allow this record to slide in. On this disc Will Oldham reimagines the work of a wide array of artists including Bjork, Frank Sinatra, Danzig and R. Kelly. Fans will be happy to hear that Bonnie “Prince” Billy’s new record will also come with one brand spankin’ new tune by the man himself.

Nine Inch Nails - Y34RZ3R0R3M1X3D*

This is a remix album of the band’s earlier release Year Zero. Yes, on the very first installment I’m bending one of my rules. This album is significant, however, for two reasons.

1) It is the final record of the band’s current contract with its label, Interscope Records. With this record the band is officially unaffiliated, something Trent Reznor has been making a lot of noise about for quite some time. In light of Radiohead’s latest choose-your-own-price download of In Rainbows and Reznor’s vocal support for file-sharing, who knows what lies ahead for the band’s future music?

2) The album comes with a DVD-ROM that includes multi-track masters for every song on Year Zero. Essentially, every fan who buys this disc will be able to take every song apart and remix to their hearts’ content. Wild.

While there seems to be a dearth of noteworthy full-length albums this week there’s clearly still good music to be had. The EPs coupled with the Nine Inch Nails release certainly foreshadow grander, if not revolutionary, projects on the horizon so in your travels around the Internet remember to keep an eye out. As each week goes by you can never tell what you might miss if you don’t stop to check What’s New.

*If you can’t read this you might want to check here. It translates to “Year Zero Remixed”
