I’ve recently come across I Guess I’m Floating and I’m going to be honest, the first time I checked it out it didn’t seem like much to me, but now that I’ve had some time to settle into it, I think i’m floating too!
IGIF is quickly becoming one of my main sources for “Music, News, Music News, and Music/News of the Rock and/or Roll variety.” and is on it’s way to receiving permanent bookmark status, which isn’t easy to do. IGIF is manned by Connor and Nathaniel a couple of college students, but is looking for more writers to cover concerts (boy I feel sorry for the guy who gets assigned that job).
What you’ll notice about IGIF when you visit it is that if feels a lot more organized than the average music blog, and that’s because it is. One thing music blogs often suffer from is one main page of content that all too quickly gets pushed down by more content, which forces you to have to search through the sprawling list of hyperlinks on one (or both) of the sidebars to find the posts past; an endeavor as painstaking as it is futile (I mean how many times do you remember a specific blog post title???). Such is the way of a blog (especially a freely hosted one like blogger.com), and there’s not much you can do about it if you don’t want to dish out the cash for a “real” website design with “pages” . . . or is there? The IGIF gang have used to their advantage a way of linking what in reality are several blogs together, each with their own domain name, under the guise of one all encompassing blog. See those 5 buttons on the banner, yeah that’s what I’m talking about. Five blogs acting as pages–seamlessly connected, and that is the secret of I Guess I’m Floating. Here we have a blog subdivided into a main content page (Home), which is all that you would expect it to be; and if it existed on it’s own would be a better than average music blog, a Review page, where albums are reviewed and displayed in a unique fashion, a Calendar page detailing touring dates of some of their favourite bands, and a Photo page of concerts and live shows they’ve attended. In terms of blog tricking out, IGIF takes the prize.
I Guess I’m Floating also takes the prize of 5 out of 5 bunches of grapes!!!
