You’d think that a blog which only covered music by Swedish musicians would cater to a pretty niche group, but with the immense influx of music coming from Sweden these days you’d be wrong. It’s almost impossible to find an indie band these days that isn’t Swedish.
Illinois based Swedesplease does what it says on the tin, consistently serves up songs by Swedish artists, and how Swedesplease does it is beyond me. It’s as if Swedesplease is Ellis Island, where all Swedish music goes before it can enter the United States.
What I enjoy most about Swedesplease are the music videos that are occasionally posted which (if Swedish enough) can be both entertaining and hilarious. (see: Snook)
What can be applauded most about Swedesplease is that, if nothing else, it opens our eyes to a world of music that we may not know exists.
Overall however, Swedesplease may, at times, be too niche. It isn’t a blog that you can consistently come back to to find good content. Now this doesn’t mean that it is a novelty blog, it just means that not everyone may enjoy Swedish pop and electronica as much as the author of Swedesplease obviously does.
On the technical side, the overall blog is easy to navigate and use, search functions are not implemented as well as they could be, but the look of the blog is extremely clean and slick.
All of these aspects lead me to award Swedesplease a 3 out of 5.
