Technically this is a “They Brought The Music To Us,” as Cindy Hotpoint and Pinkie Von Bloom of The Rich Girls are Weeping are taking a break from the music blogging scene to move on to some bigger and better things after fulfilling their dream of moving to The Big Apple.
While The Rich Girls are Weeping is technically no more, it has amassed a two-year backlog of content covering topics ranging from The Decemberists in their first post in 2005 to Rihanna in one of their last.
The Rich Girls are Weeping is a good ol’ fashioned music blog. Founded in 2005, it maintains the simplicity of the day and doesn’t try to update its look for the in-your-face attitude of “the world of tomorrow.” Stripping down to the basics of music blogging has proven effective time and time again (see Fluxblog: 6 years and still going strong) as the clutter of contests, fancy widgets, and other eye candy wear out over time.
The Rich Girls are Weeping knows its audience and caters only to them - and let’s face it, men are profoundly interested in what women have to say (hold your comments) when it comes to a field that is predominantly male-run and oriented. It’s the reason Gawker offshoot Jezebel has an embarrassing amount of male readers (myself included).
There simply aren’t enough female bloggers out there, let alone female music bloggers.
The music blogging world will be a little bit emptier without The Rich Girls are Weeping, but rumors are circulating that the authors are developing another blog project and a “music-related book.” The girls also run their own clothing line, Kindling & Tinder. With all of this going on it’s no wonder that they don’t have any time to blog!
I wish Cindy and Pinkie nothing but luck.
