Artist Profile: Eli Young Band

Fans of country music have been watching what they have come to know as true country music slip away day by day, and witnessing it’s replacement become a little more teenage. There is one band, however, that may have the ability and surging fan base to provide a sliver of light in the dying form of country music.

That band is the Eli Young Band: your classic country/rock crossover group, which was founded just under 3 years ago and has been going strong ever since. In that time they have been touring the United States and focusing their shows in the southeast and southwest where the genre is most appreciated.

Originally from Denton, Texas, their country roots are firmly planted in the southwest. Their original album, Level debuted in 2005 and shot them into the regional spotlight. The album has strong rock music meddled with blues and country in it’s truest form.

Despite the band’s name, there is no Eli Young in the group. Instead the band’s 2 original members, Mike Eli and James Young, combined their last names to create the team’s title. In the last year, the band added 2 former colleagues to the group: Jon Jones and Chris Thompson.

Since their conception, the band has released 2 albums: the aforementioned Level and a live album entitled Eli Young Band Live At The Jolly Fox. A new album planned by the band is nearing completion as the band tours heavily in the south, but no release date has been mentioned.

There is no question that the Eli Young Band has a bright future as long as the genre permits, but how long will it be before this group breaks out?

Going through the change, when it rains it pours these days
Nothing stays the same, you gotta find new ways
To swim upstream, while you chase your dreams
And in between you keep your sanity

Waiting on life to Level
Waiting on something stable
Maybe soon I’ll be able
To rest my head again

Never thought I’d see the day, I’d hear the old man say
It could end this way, why did it end this way
And the young kids know, they’ll be on their own
And you can’t go home; no you can’t go home

- “Level”, Eli Young Band
