Another week, another Tuesday Wednesday, another flurry of new music. As new albums drop, this column will do its best to track the notable releases so you don’t have to. Only new material is included in this list; compilations, re-releases, live albums and remixes will generally not be covered.
This week is packed at an unprecedented level so I’ve pulled out some of my favorites and listed the rest of this week’s releases at the end.
- American Music Club - The Golden Age
- Apes - Ghost Games
- Atlas Sound - Let the Blind Lead Those Who Can See but Cannot
- The Big Sleep - Sleep Forever
- Headlights - Some Racing, Some Stopping
- Ghislain Poirier - No Ground Under
- Throw Me the Statue - Moonbeams
- Justus Kohncke - Safe and Sound
Their second album after their 2004 reunion is laden with fuzzy, laid back rock songs.
I saw this group at CMJ this past fall. They were pretty out of control. In a good way.
Deerhunter frontman Bradford Cox leads a side-project of dreamy indie-pop.
This Brooklyn three-piece boasts a thick, heavy, urgent sound that, in the words of Mr. Hobson, “rocks fully.”
I get really suspicious when bands self-describe as “indie-pop” because it’s often uninspired, saccharin and rehashed. Headlights have some rough spots, but is overall dangerously catchy. Plus, Erin Fein’s voice is pretty.
Mix Caribbean and American hip-hop beats and an emcee with a decent flow and you get one pretty tasty dish.
A little kitschy, a little catchy, a little quirky this Seattle indie act is 100% fun. A pleasant surprise from the dour Pacific Northwest.
Like Daft Punk at their tranciest, this German DJ delivers some solid club techno.
The Raveonettes - Lust Lust Lust
The Mountain Goats - Heretic Pride
No Kids - Come Into my House
Panther - 14kt God
Sian Alice Group - 59.59
Bell X1 - Flock
Cryptacize - Dig That Treasure
The Grand Archives - The Grand Archives
Growing - Lateral
Gary Louris - Vagabonds
Megafaun - Bury the Square
Monade - Monstre Cosmic
Morcheeba - Dive Deep
Shauna Burns - The Moon and the Fire Circle
A Cursive Memory - Changes
Doug Hoekstra - Blooming Roses
After a lackluster week the floodgates seem to have burst. Just in case this isn’t enough new music to handle, check back next week. While a great number of CDs dropped this week, there’s always something to be found if you check out What’s New.
