TBTMTU: Feed Me Good Tunes

February 21st, 2008 by Jacob Nicolas · No Comments

In the world of music blogging, there are three main categories into which almost every blog falls: the plain-Jane music blog, with posts of one or two songs and a short description (which, as we’ve seen, can be anything but plain); the music news/new music blog, which posts song files topically; and, arguably the rarest type of music blog, the playlist blog, which serves up full dishes of music pie. They give you the music not only for the sound but for the moods that they/you are in.

Of course, all three of these types frequently meld and mix with each other, but Feed Me Good Tunes is more in the latter category than any other blog I’ve featured thus far.

What appeals to me the most about FMGT, even more than the music, are the mini stories, recollections, and anecdotes that accompany each post. Without this commentary the post would just be a jumble of seemingly unrelated songs rather than the background tracks for the post itself.

One of the first things you’ll notice as you peruse the archives of FMGT is that the posts are much longer than those on most other music blogs, which makes reading them that more satisfying.

On the technical side, there is no easy way to view previous posts other than by reading them month by month (and there sometimes is only one post per month), but because of this relative infrequency omitting a “Previous Posts” button is permissible. FMGT is more like a diary that happens to have music in it than a constantly revolving totem pole of music.

The authors of Feed Me Good Tunes serve up the soundtracks of their lives and are kind enough to let us listen in.
