Another week, another Tuesday, another flurry of new music. As new albums drop, this column will do its best to track the notable releases so you don’t have to. Only new material is included in this list; compilations, re-releases, live albums and remixes will generally not be covered.
- Lenny Kravitz - The Lenny Kravitz Experience
- ShyGuys - These Darkest Covered Shadows
- Flotation Walls - Vengeance in Vivisection
- Britney Spears - A Little Bit Softer Now
- Raw Dawg - Up in Herrrr
- American Idyll - Thank God for Television
- Donald Rumsfeld - Let the Eagle Soar
Finally acknowledging that he’s a clone of the iconic 60s rock idol, Kravitz releases an album of 12 covers of Hendrix tunes. Wait, aren’t all his songs Hendrix covers?
This emo-pop foursome presents some of the most melodically saccharin, down-spirited songs ever collected. They embarked on a tour of the Southwestern U.S. and Mexico in support of their disc on March 7.
No, not that Flotation Walls. This Norwegian death-metal five-piece apparently first claimed the name five years ago when they released their cheery debut, Reign of Final Destruction.
Brit continues on her path to a comeback by shedding her pop-star skin and trying her hand at what can only be termed bubble-gum-folk-rock. If you can’t find it in the store, try looking in the bargain bin.
The newest up-and-comer out of the ATL. Twelve hot club hits that somehow all sound the same. Lil’ Wayne guests on four tracks.
This pop supergroup features the winners from all seven seasons of hit reality show American Idol. Touching on pop, rock(ish), country and gospel, it will be quite an embarrassing development if David Hernandez doesn’t actually win this season. Oh wait…
Building on the title track, Rumsfeld has enlisted the help of Missouri eight-piece Capitol Offense to back him on the album’s 15 tracks. Asked “What were you thinking?” Rumsfeld reportedly replied “I can’t recall at this time.”
A few surprises this week for those who haven’t been paying attention. Line-ups like this kind of make you want to avoid checking out What’s New. Such rash actions could have severe effects on one’s mental health. Consult a physician.

I’m personally most looking forward to hearing that Sun Kill Moon record.
