You may remember the feature we at Listen In did on Muxtape, the new service which allows you to upload any 12 songs which can then be played through any computer with an internet connection.
At approximately 2:30pm today (Wed. May 21st), it was noticed that everyone’s Muxtape, yes even yours, displayed 12 of the same song. Aim (with Stephen Jones) - Good Disease [Babybird does a Prince thing] to be more specific.
As of right now Muxtape.com as well as all muxtapes are down, and Justin, the creator of Muxtape has released this statement on the Muxtape blog:
This afternoon, someone gained access to our server and caused some problems. We are investigating and will have more information soon. I’ve taken the site down temporarily as a precaution. Thanks for your understanding, watch this space for an update.
This article will be updated with new information as it comes out.
Update:Muxtape.com still down, this time with an addendum to the statement: If we’re not back by dawn, call the president.
Also another statement has been released on the blog stating that Muxtape will not be back up until they’re “sure what happened this afternoon won’t get repeated”. It also states that there are backups of the altered data.
Update: Was it a hack after all? A new statement on the Muxtape blog says that what initially appeared as someone gaining access to our server could have possibly been an accident.
but that they will continue to investigate the situation.
