Day 1 of Austin City Limits is here, right now I’m sitting in the press lounge waiting for some shows to start, but so far everything is looking pretty good.

Yesterday I arrived in Austin and spent the night getting to know the bus route I would be taking and familiarizing myself with downtown. I went to the Capitol building which is great. I’ve been through Austin before but I’ve never actually been to Austin. The trees here are a lot different than just 90 miles Southwest. From what I have observed the people here are a bit more friendly than in San Antonio; when you walk down the street people smile and nod at you.

This morning I headed downtown a bit early hoping to find someplace to eat some breakfast and praying that my name was actually on the list of press attending. I found a nice deli and ate then went to catch the free shuttle that would take me to Zilker Park.

As I got there the line was already getting pretty long and the wait was about 20 minutes. The shuttle ended up being a large Greyhound type bus, which took us about 5 miles over to the festival grounds. The press check-in was very well hidden and almost no one knew where it was, I was sent around in circles until finally I found it. I picked up my bracelets and then walked around the park. It’s a lot more flat and barren than I expected. The heat isn’t too bad, it’s around 85 degrees here. There are lots of food and merchandise booths located throughout.

So that brings me here, so far. I’m going to go check out Asleep at the Wheel (web, myspace) in a little bit, on recommendation of a Scottish couple who were behind me in line for the shuttle.

Stay tuned for more.
