On the Republican side in this election cycle many if not most of the candidates have been running the “I’m the most like Ronald Reagan” campaign. This has been true during the debates, in their stump speeches, and just like when Reagan famously praised Bruce Springsteen, in the music they choose to associate with their […]

The Future of Internet Radio
January 25th, 2008 by Smiling Jack · No Comments
Though you might not be aware of it, a market for music which has been building up for about fourteen years might, or might not, be driven out of business in the near future. It’s an easy fact to miss, because the major news outlets have been reluctant to cover it.
The first internet radio […]

The RIAA’s Curious Relationship With Its Customers
January 18th, 2008 by Smiling Jack · No Comments
In February of 2005, the Recording Industry Association of America sued Gertrude Walton for putting 700 copyrighted songs onto the internet. She is hardly unusual, they’ve sued more then 20,000 people over the last four years. This time, the punchline is that Gertrude Walton died in 2004.

The gift of music in 2007…er…2008?

Chesterton†, an English author famous for his masterful use of paradox to present acumens of “common sense”. Though Chesterton’s writing was often tongue-in-cheek, he produced seminal works of social and political philosophy.

Jackson 5 to Reunite… Whaaaaa???
November 27th, 2007 by Evan Mix · No Comments
Today’s music news comes from the “what were they thinking?” category. Jermaine Jackson, of recent Celebrity Big Brother fame, told BBC Radio on November 27th that the Jackson 5 are planning a reunion tour. They are also “in the studio,” which I take to mean that they’re hanging out at Mike’s house in Dubai, trying […]

Why U2 Really Is “The Best Band in the World”
November 23rd, 2007 by Evan Mix · 1 Comment
That’s right, music fans: I’m back by popular demand. However, in the interest of experimenting and staying fresh, I’m going to give things a twist. So, today I’ll be defending famous artists, rather than slandering them. Now, I know what you’re thinking, and it goes something like this: “But wait a minute! U2 sucks! They […]
